Elite 200 V2
Enough battery for a real outage night, still liftable by one adult.
Well pump or 240V circuits: EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3. Fridge, lights and phones in a short outage: BLUETTI Elite 200 V2. The same on a budget: Jackery Explorer 1000 v2. Router, phone and laptop: EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus. Runtime depends on what you plug in, so do the math below. None replace a generator for a week-long outage without solar or a recharge.

A battery you build a backup plan around. 120/240V, and room to grow.

The fridge-and-phones station. Small enough to live in a closet.

Capacity, output and ports from the manufacturers. Runtimes and verdicts from Popular Mechanics, which ran all four, and OutdoorGearLab. We don’t run our own lab tests. Store links are plain links for now; we haven’t joined any of these brands’ affiliate programs.
List what must stay on. Fridge, medical devices, router, sump pump, phones, a few lights. For a CPAP or other medical device, confirm power needs and backup options with the device maker, including humidifier settings. This guide doesn’t verify a medical backup setup. Ready.gov says a closed fridge keeps food cold for about four hours and a full freezer about 48. That’s your clock.
Watt-hours are your fuel tank. Divide watt-hours by the watts you draw to get hours, then knock off about 15%, as Popular Mechanics advises. Runtime depends on each appliance’s draw, its start-up surge and whatever else is plugged in. Published fridge runtimes are examples, not a promise for your fridge. Your fridge’s yellow EnergyGuide label lists kWh per year; divide by 365 for a rough daily figure.
Output watts decide what starts. Fridges, pumps and saws pull a surge at start-up. Check the surge rating, not just the continuous number.
Recharge is the real plan. A battery buys hours or a day. Solar panels, a running car or a generator outside are what get you through a week.
240V needs the big box and an electrician. Well pumps and some HVAC run on 240V. Only the DELTA Pro 3 here does it, and a transfer switch should be installed by a licensed electrician.
These run indoors with no exhaust. Gas generators don’t. Ready.gov says generators belong outdoors, at least 20 feet from windows, doors and attached garages, with battery-backed carbon monoxide alarms on every level. Never heat the house with a gas oven.
Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus. PCMag calls it highly effective whole-home backup: 3.84kWh, 6,000W and 120/240V. Popular Mechanics notes it weighs over 135 pounds. It’s the DELTA Pro 3’s closest rival; we’ll add it once we’ve checked listings.
